HTTP 5xx errors indicate server issues that prevent pages from loading. When search engines encounter these errors, they may be unable to index affected pages, which can hurt your site’s SEO. Additionally, visitors facing these errors experience poor usability, which impacts your site’s credibility.
Implementation Guide
Identifying 5xx Errors:
Download and Install Screaming Frog SEO Spider: If you don’t already have it, download Screaming Frog SEO Spider, available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Enter Your Website’s URL:
- Launch Screaming Frog, enter your website URL in the ‘Enter URL to spider’ box, and click ‘Start’.
View the Results:
- After the crawl finishes, go to the Response Codes tab. Here, you’ll find a breakdown of HTTP response codes, including any 5xx errors.
Filter 5xx Errors:
- Use the Filter dropdown, select 5xx Server Error, and view all pages with server-related errors.
Identify Problematic Pages:
- Review the URLs with 5xx errors and note the specific pages and their error codes.
Fixing the Issue
Check Server Logs:
- Examine server logs to locate the source of the 5xx errors. Common issues include server overload, misconfigurations, or temporary downtime.
Contact Your Hosting Provider:
- If the issue is server-related, contact your hosting provider for assistance. They can provide insights into server performance and help with configuration adjustments.
Update Shopify Apps:
